Did you make resolutions this year? Have you stuck with them?

Individuals have been setting resolutions since Babylonian times, over 4,000 years ago. The practice of reflecting on the past year and setting intentions for the year ahead is a worthy endeavor.

“People who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't explicitly make resolutions.”

What do you hope to accomplish this year?

Set Your Intentions:
Take time to reflect on three to five things you’d like to achieve by the end of the year. Be realistic. Be kind to yourself.

Visualize Your Achievements:
Imagine yourself accomplishing one of your goals. What are the specific steps you will take toward your journey to success? What does it feel like once you’ve arrived at your destination?

Stay Focused:
Keep goals top of mind by posting them where you’ll see them every day. If you want to get crafty, create a vision board.

You Gotta Work:
Make wise choices. Resolve to take small steps toward your goals every day. How can you get one percent closer to your target each day?

Stay Motivated:
Set your bar high. If you experience minor setbacks, don’t abandon your goals. Many of us slip up once in a while. Give yourself a break and keep moving forward.

Manage Your Expectations:
If you find that your goals are a little too lofty, tweak them as necessary. There are many paths to your desired destination.

Seek Social Support:
Share your intentions with others. They can encourage you to stay accountable. They can also cheer you on as you succeed.

Celebrate Your Victories:
Enjoy the journey to realizing your goals. Pat yourself on the back for even the smallest of achievements. Create a reward system to train your mind with positive reinforcement.

Bottom Line:
Stay focused on what’s important to you. Even incremental changes are better than none at all.

We’re here for you. Tell us your dreams, and we will help light the path to achievement.
